Smarter people than I have debated that &#8230; (<em>The Letters to the Seven Churches<\/em>, pg. 13).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The theological terms for the doctrines of eternal and conditional salvation, are <em>monergism<\/em>, and <em>synergism<\/em>. Monergism \u201cis the position in Christian\u00a0theology\u00a0that God, through the\u00a0Holy Spirit, works to bring about the salvation of individuals through spiritual\u00a0regeneration\u00a0without cooperation from the individual.\u201d Since the Holy Spirit is the agent of salvation and not the individual, salvation is not conditional, but eternal. Synergism is \u201cthe belief that God and individuals cooperate for salvation.\u201d Since the individual cooperates in his salvation, his salvation can be conditional.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monergism\" target=\"_blank\">Monergism<\/a>,\u201d <em>Wikipedia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPelagius and Augustine, in whom these opposite forms of monergism are embodied, are representative men, even more strictly than Arius and Athanathius before them, or Nestorius and Cyril after them. \u2026 They represented principles and tendencies, which, in various modifications, extend through the whole history of the church, and reappear in its successive epochs.
