Three Forms of the Medieval Roman Empire

July 28, 2016 by Christine Miller Leave a Comment

I apologize that I have been absent today! So many last minute details to finalize before the books ship! Whoo hoo! I am happy to announce that the endnote posting has resumed on the book website. This is one that was posted today:

The modern (actually, medieval) Roman Empire that we have been dealing with since Rev 13 is also in three parts: the beast of the sea, the land, and the image of the beast. The beast of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, is the representation of the kingdoms of this world, which are all patterned after Babel in their philosophy and operation. … So the kingdoms of this world are represented by Rome, the terrible fourth beast of Daniel’s vision.

The second third is the beast from the land, which we saw the Roman papacy fulfilled, and the third of the thirds is the image of the beast whose deadly wound was healed, which is fulfilled in the Holy Roman Empire. (pp. 195-196).

“The beast is the Roman power in three forms, Imperial, Papal, and the Holy Roman Empire. The beast with seven heads is the secular power of the Roman Empire; the lamb-like beast who looks like Jesus but talks like the devil is the Papacy; the image to the beast is the Holy Roman Empire.”

– Fred Miller, Revelation: A Panorama of the Gospel Age, Ch. 9, “The Seven Last Plagues: The Decline and Fall of the Papacy.”

The Three Forms of the Medieval Roman Empire

Posting this today actually solidified something in my mind that has been growing as I have finished working on this book. Just as there are three series of judgments, seals, trumpets, and bowls, there are three series of Roman incarnations that each set of judgments is poured out upon. The seals judge the ancient Roman incarnation, the trumpets judge the medieval Roman incarnation, and the bowls judge the modern Roman incarnation. The judgment of the Roman beast is almost done!

6th Bowl Poured out on the Euphrates

Ecc 1:9 | scripture pictures at alittleperspective.com

Daily musing, today on the 6th bowl of wrath poured out on the Euphrates. Its purpose is to prepare the way for the kings of the east, to respond to the call for the nations to gather at Armageddon. The Euphrates represents the Turkish Empire, the Ottoman Turks, who were dissolved at the conclusion of World War I in 1917. But today can the kings of the east march from Asia to Israel? No – because an Islamist Empire, held together by the Islamist ideology, holds sway there, and war is ongoing. What if the wrath poured out on the Euphrates means the destruction of Islamist ideology altogether, and not ONLY the Ottoman Empire? Even though Islamist ideology seems strong today, there is a huge revival going on at its foundation, among the common people, converting to faith in Messiah Yeshua. Just as in 100-300 AD, and the fierce persecution of Christian faith led to the collapse of the ruling power and its conversion to that faith, might we be seeing the same thing repeat?

The German Empire

Coronation of Wilhelm I of Prussia | revelationrevealed.online

Endnotes added today for Revelation chapters 16 and 17 in the book: The German Confederation, the German Empire, and details for the ten horns, or ten kings. This painting isn’t even of one of the ten horns, but depicts the coronation of Wilhelm I of Prussia as Emperor of the Germans in 1871. He was not one of the ten horns, but was the grandfather of the eighth horn, German Kaiser Wilhelm II (who was in large part responsible for World War I). http://revelationrevealed.online/extras/

Map of Asia Minor

map of Asia Minor, 1914 | revelationrevealed.online

This map of Asia Minor and surrounding area was made by the Germans in 1914, which shows the traditional ethnic regions before today’s modern boundaries were imposed after the breakup of the Ottoman Empire. You can clearly see the Ottoman power base in Asia Minor. The Armenians are colored in blue, and have been since the advent of Christianity, Christians. You can also see the territory of the Kurds adjacent to and interwoven with the Armenians.

This is significant because the article posted about Turkey’s failed coup attempt which will only be repeated at some point in the future, this time successfully, mentioned Turkey’s animosity toward the Kurds. The Kurds have been wanting their own state separate from Turkey, Iraq, Syria, and Iran for some time (their traditional territory fell partway within the modern boundaries of all these states). Kurds claim their descent from the ancient Medians, and were forcably converted to Islam during Islam’s career of Middle East conquest. Interestingly enough, the ten tribes of the northern kingdom were deported by the Assyrians to the cities of the Medians:

In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. 2 Kin 17:6.

The shaded territory on the above map, especially that at the northern end of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, is the ancient homeland of the Assyrians.

18 “In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear by the Lord of hosts; one will be called the City of Destruction.

19 In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border. 20 And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them. 21 Then the Lord will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the Lord in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the Lord and perform it. 22 And the Lord will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal it; they will return to the Lord, and He will be entreated by them and heal them.

23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians.

24 In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land, 25 whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.”

Isa 19:18-25, one of the unfulfilled prophecies remaining in Isaiah.
